To bring up the main panel either press TAB or click on the Rhapsody4 icon with the ADJUST button.
If you wish to load a score and bring up the panel ready for editing, hold the ALT key down while double-clicking on the score.
To select some symbols you can click on a similar symbol in a score using the ADJUST button. This is very useful if the desired symbol does not happen to be visible at the time.
To enter quick edit mode from the keyboard, press Shift-TAB. To enter drop mode press Ctrl-TAB. To return to normal mode, press TAB.
Remember that the symbols window can be dragged from left and right using the mouse. Also using ADJUST instead of SELECT on the buttons at the end of the window reverses the direction of movement.
For speedy entering of a single line melody, hold the CTRL key down and the cursor will automatically move to the right place for the next note.
To insert a note in a new slot when using Quick mode or Drop mode, hold down the SHIFT key.
DELETE deletes the selected object: Shift-DELETE deletes all objects under the cursor: Ctrl-Shift-DELETE deletes the whole cursor slot including everything in it.
To insert a note or place text etc outside the normal boundaries of a stave, position the cursor on the stave and use the cursor keys to move the red arrows to the desired place.
If you want to move the position of a note or an accidental left or right in a slot, hold down the CTRL key while dragging it. This is called microadjusting.
When microadjusting two notes on the same line of a stave, SELECT moves the upstem note, ADJUST moves the downstem note.
To select a dotted crotchet, double click on the crotchet symbol. Alternatively, press F4 twice.
To insert a dotted, tied, tripleted or accented note with a sharp or a flat, select the modifying symbols with the ADJUST button.
To insert a bracketed accidental, use the ADJUST button (or Shift-SPACE) when inserting it.
Clefs and key signatures can be inserted anywhere into a score but they should preferably be placed immediately BEFORE a bar line.
Time signatures must always be placed either ON or immediately AFTER a bar line.
If you can't reach or find the control spot of a phrase mark to drag it, hold down SHIFT and click-drag the end point. The pointer will jump to the control spot.
IF you can't drag the end of a phrase mark or a hairpin, it may actually be in the stave above or below or in the next slot. Try clicking slightly to one side of the spot.
To insert or delete a GLOBAL pedal mark, hold the SHIFT key down when inserting.
To get the effect of a spread chord over two staves, set the spread on the lower stave to play before the beat and that on the upper stave to play after the beat.
When entering text, you can still move the cursor using Shift-LEFT and Shift-RIGHT. You can also toggle autospacing on and off using the TAB or the ESCAPE key.
When transcribing legato notes, be sure to press the pedal after you start recording and not before.
You can scroll the symbols window by using Ctrl-PAGE UP or Ctrl-PAGE DOWN.
To close the licence window (or this one) quickly, just click on it. Alternatively, press ESCAPE.
To open the main panel in normal editing mode, press TAB.
To open the main panel in quick edit mode, press SHIFT-TAB.
To open the main panel in drop edit mode, press CTRL-TAB.
To open this window again. press CTRL-SHIFT-TAB
To bring up the stave data window, click on the stave data summary at the beginning of the score.
To play one stave on its own, mark it as a SOLO stave by clicking on the last line of the stave data summary at the beginning of the score. Clicking repeatedly cycles through the options.
If you use the vertical bar character '|' in a stave name, the name will be split into two lines.
When dragging systems around on a formatted page, repagination of the subsequent systems can be prevented by holding down the SHIFT key.
When entering clefs and key signatures, the automatic transposition of subsequent notes can be prevented by holding down the SHIFT key (or using the ADJUST button).
When using the keyboard short cuts, remember that holding the SHIFT key down often has the same effect as using the ADJUST button.
P = play from cursor. Shift-P = play from left hand side of current window. Ctrl-P = play from the start. All of these will cause playing to stop.
When selecting note symbols using the function keys (or the mouse) a double click will select a dotted note, a triple click selects a triplet. Ties and slurs can also be selected.
Pressing Ctrl and Shift when clicking on a score with the SELECT button doubles the scale. Using the ADJUST button halves the scale.
Clicking on the information shown in the pane attached to a score brings up the appropriate window for editing, or, in the case of the loudness setting, alters it immediately.
Shift-[ = normal cursor, Shift-] = extended cursor.
Ctrl-O = start/stop recording.
Ctrl-', Ctrl-[ and Ctrl-] enter step capture mode with tails auto, up or down respectively. If already in step capture mode, these keys return to normal editing mode.
Ctrl-A = realign bar. Ctrl-K = kern bar. Ctrl - J = unkern bar.
